Mere Fidelity: Pentecost and the Prophetic Gift of the Spirit

Having just celebrated Pentecost, Andrew, Alastair, and I consider the role that the frequently overlooked ‘prophetic’ gift of the Spirit plays in the life of the church.

Articles to consider include Peter Leithart’s essay on the seven spirits, and the “Alastair Roberts corpus.”

  1. I wrote a little post regarding Pentecost Sunday. Though I grew up and attend a Pentecostal church, this is not from a Pentecostal lens. For me, Pentecost is not about speaking in heavenly ecstatic languages, but about being that prophetic witness, that is, preaching the gospel to the ends of the world.

    My post offers a quick historical background to what was taking place. Unfortunately, many pentecostal have neglected to read Acts in context. If they would, they’d be surprised.
